Yesterday I ran a local race, the largest 25k in the country, the Fifth third river bank run. I’ve had a pretty solid training season for it and it resulted with solid results. My goal was to run with a consistent pace throughout and I consider that a goal that I reached. My first 14 splits were all within a 10 second range. The last mile and a half were about 12 seconds out of that range but I’m ok with that. I had about 5 training runs of 14-15 miles and I think that really helped. I’m looking forward to marathon training starting immediately. I’m going to put in a lot of miles this summer and I hope it pays off in my marathons. I need to strengthen my hamstrings as this was the only muscle that tightened up during the 25k. Happy training everyone!
I had a decently paced long run today, but it definitely didn’t end well. My stomach was killing me and giving me really sharp pain. I think it’s because I tried a new orange flavor of gu and I’m hoping it was just that. The strange thing was last week I had a great long run in a blizzard but felt like I had nutrition finally figured out for long runs. This makes me stupid for changing flavors today. I’ll go back to the usual next week and hope I have a better long run and a better week of training overall. This week was filled with disappointing runs, which happens, but it was the first time in a very long time that I’ve been really disappointed with one run let alone multiple in a week. Next week will be better.
5 miles today in the 17 degree weather and snow drifts. It feels so great to bundle up and have a nice run in the cold
Today I got kinda pissed because I got 2nd place in the race on my cycling DVD.
Im proud of my 1:46 half marathon. These effers are going to run a 2:07 full. So crazy!
January 11 shorts and a t shirt and 4 miles. Of course somehow it goes from that to a giant snowstorm expected tomorrow. Of course Michigan.
It’s january 10. In Michigan. No snow. 50 degrees. PERFECT running weather. I had a great run and I’m starting to formally train for a 25k in may.
I’m sorry. It’s not you, it’s me. I don’t have anytime for you during the school year, but rest assured that I’m still training and have some goals for 2012. River bank run 25k, millennium triathlon, north country trail run marathon and the Chicago marathon. I’ve sustained about 20 - 25 miles per week since the grand rapids marathon in October. I’ve seen great improvements with speed work, but the snowy roads hate faster speeds.
Love,
Brad
I ran the GR marathon Sunday only 4 weeks after the Air Force Marathon. I wore compression socks and running tights as it was a little cooler and the compression socks made a HUGE difference. Best 40 dollars I ever spent and I had no issues until mile 25 with cramps in my calves.
I tried to change my nutrition to improve my overall time. I took endurolytes and a gu alternating every 2.5 miles. I didn’t want to tank, but I threw up at mile 18, 30 seconds after I took a gu. It gave me a boost of adreneline and carried me for a little bit actually but my stomach wasn’t right the rest of the race.
I actually knew pretty early on that my legs didn’t have the strength they needed. They were tired already near mile 12, which it a real shitty feeling. In my next training season I’m going to do less cross training and more running to have more strength to last until the end. I think I’ll probably do a 22 miler and a couple 20 milers next time I train.
There are so many X factors, but I still haven’t finished a marathon and been really excited with how it went. I have to continue to figure out nutrition and training in order to maximize performance on race day. Stupid marathons are like crack to me. Why during every race do I say never again and immediately after start thinking about the next one? :)
Getting (a runner’s) high always make everything seem much better
